Yiu-Lian Fong PhD, MBA

Global Head, Diagnostic Innovation, R&D and Lab Operation, Janssen, Johnson & Johnson 

Yiu-Lian is the Global Head for Diagnostic Innovation, Research & Early Development, and Lab Operation for Janssen Diagnostics and Johnson & Johnson Innovation Center, responsible for identifying, assessing innovative, enabling and disruptive diagnostic technologies and solutions, and also responsible for companion & complementary diagnostic assay development (internal effort or in partnership) to help drive precision medicine and J&J’s World Without Disease initiative, and to advance J&J’s pipelines.

Prior to joining the Johnson & Johnson family, Yiu-Lian was the Divisional VP for R&D at Abbott Molecular, in charge of R&D including Assay Development, System Engineering and System Integration, as well as Scientific Affair and Project Management. Previously, she served as the Executive Director for Molecular Diagnostics and Companion Diagnostics Development at Novartis, where she established from scratch and managed all wet-lab based functions including Assay Development, QC Analytical Method Development, QC Release Testing and Pilot Production. She served Chiron and Novartis for about 18 years with various leadership roles for therapeutic drug & vaccine development, blood screening assay development, BM and diagnostic development.

Yiu-Lian has track record of successful product development and regulatory approvals for drug, blood screening and IVD Diagnostics.

Yiu-Lian earned her Ph.D. in Molecular Physiology and Biophysics from Vanderbilt University and was a post graduate fellow at Johns Hopkins University. She also received her MBA from the University of Massachusetts, Amherst.
