Jason D. Merker, M.D., Ph.D.

Jason D. Merker, M.D., Ph.D. is an Associate Professor in the Departments of Pathology & Laboratory Medicine and Genetics at the University of North Carolina School of Medicine and Lineberger Comprehensive Cancer Center. He is Director of Cancer Molecular Pathology and Co-Director of the Translational Genomics Laboratory at the UNC Lineberger Comprehensive Cancer Center, as well as Director of Molecular Oncology and Associate Director of Molecular Pathology at UNC Hospitals McLendon Clinical Laboratories. He is an attending physician in the UNC Hospitals Molecular Genetics Laboratory and co-directs the UNC Health Molecular Tumor Board. At UNC, Dr. Merker oversees a wide range of projects involving translational and clinical cancer genomics, correlative genomic studies in cancer clinical trials, and precision oncology.

Dr. Merker received his B.S., M.D., and Ph.D. in Genetics from UNC. He completed residency and fellowship training at Stanford Hospital and Clinics, followed by postdoctoral training in cancer genomics at Stanford University. Dr. Merker is board-certified in Clinical Pathology and Molecular Genetic Pathology by the American Board of Pathology and in Clinical Cytogenetics by the American Board of Medical Genetics and Genomics.
